Last month, I was at the ‘grande opening’ of Bodon, La Grande Brasserie at the Apollo Hotel, Amsterdam. What an extravaganza this was! There was a giant Champagne tower, delicious finger foods, dj’s and lots of beautiful people. Time to sit down and try the French menu!
Bodon is a true Instagram Heaven. The Belgian designer Will Erens mixed a lot of different styles into a stunning setting. You will find hints of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, the 20’s untill the 70’s, Palm Springs and a whole lot more. Wow! The goal was to create a cosmopolitan, over the top, luxury phenomenon and well, I think they succeeded. The love is in the details. I love the beautiful, romantic benches. Perfect for a date night!
We are welcomed with a glass of Champagne. On the menu they have traditional French dishes like Escargots de Bourgogne, Bouillabaise, Fruit de Mer & Tarte Tatin. We go for the Fruits de Mer and the Escargots. The selection of shellfish, lobster and crayfish is huge! Thank god we did not order a main course yet… Everything is super fresh and the flavours are delicious. The Escargots always remind me of the holidays in France with my family when I was young. Love them. We drink a glass of soft Chablis, while we listen to the soothing tones of a French Chanson playing in the background and try to disjoint a langoustine as charming as possible…
Our dessert is a beautiful cheeseboard. The cheese is presented to us under a giant, round, glass bell and prepared at our table. We decide we also want to try the Crèpes Suzette, to share. Let’s not get reckless…. The preparation at our table is a spectacle. ‘En Flambé!’ Thank god I still have my eyebrows… It is so nice to see how important the presentation is here!
