Restaurant Bluespoon, Andaz Amsterdam

The first thing you notice when you step into the 5-star hotel Andaz Amsterdam, is the huge wow-factor. The famous Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, is the interior designer of this beautiful place. His items are high on my ‘when I am a rich girl’ bucket list. The hotel is located at the Prinsengracht, right in the heart of the city.
The beautiful black wall in the restaurant Bluespoon, with animal heads, is hard to miss. You can see it in the photo above. The open kitchen is unique. A lot of restaurants have an open kitchen nowadays, but this one is really ‘open’. There are no walls or doors separating the tables from your sizzling upcoming meal. The restaurant and the kitchen are one.

Chef Kasper Stiekema worked for renowned Amsterdam restaurants like Ciel Blue, La Rive and he was the chef that brought restaurant the Kas to life. He loves to work with fresh, local products.

They surprise us with two sparkling oysters! Yes, sparkling! Prepared with Cava & crackling sugar…wow. I’ve never tried an oyster like this. Delicious! The fresh bread with beurre noisette is a delight. I love the fact that even the butter is pimped to perfection. My appetizer is the Mackerel Salad with an oyster, yes another one, oh happyhappyjoyjoy, puffed rice crisp, granny smith and an ice cold beetroot granite with thick yoghurt. What a special combination. The beetroot granite tastes like a sorbet! My friend loves her Single Malt Beef Steak Tartare with vandouvan mayonnaise, parmesan and a quail egg.

The main course is the highlight of the night for me. I go for the unusual option: Crispy Polenta with Truffle, poached egg, hollandaise sauce, portobello & spinach. When the word ‘truffle’ shows up on a menu, my choice is usually made. And the dish doesn’t dissapoint. The crispy polenta with the soft portobello & truffle flavour is absolutely delicious.

Our dessert is a true beauty. The Chocolate Party with Raspberry & Gold is a sight for sore eyes. Whatever, we will hit the gym tomorrow! The service is outstanding. The waiters are professional and friendly and know all about the dishes they are serving.
It is no secret that I love hotel restaurants. I like the international vibe, the ambiance & the service….ok, and the cocktails too!

Restaurant Bluespoon is a special spot, because of the unique interior and the delicious food. Perfect place for a date! Our host Diederik showed us around, so these photos might make you want to stay the night…
