Lowlands 2017 & The Gllamcamp
Year after year my friends had wild stories about their adventures at Lowlands Festival. Year after year I felt miserable that I missed out on what seemed like the event of the year. The fear of missing out is always present in my life and my agenda is marked with all the colors of the rainbow to seperate meetings, appointments, dinners and dates. But this year I am not missing out! I am going to Lowlands 2017…
With a bag packed with camping gear, homemade buckwheat pancakes, fruit, Buggles and our favorite wine, we drive to Biddinghuizen. After weeks of anticipation, listening to Spotify lists with Lowlands artists and getting high on anti-flu medication ( a temporary nose/ head amputation would have been more effective), the moment is finally there!
We sleep at the cosy Gllamcamp, where a warm campfire welcomes us and our Dreamotel with 2 boxspring beds is ready! Ok, this is not old school, die hard, festival life, but I like to get some sleep too! Now we can dance a little longer! We’ve arranged a small fridge, so our buckwheat pancakes will survive breakfast for 2 more days and the wine is chilled. Yes, we have arrived!
The party starts with Sean Paul. I have no idea how old the man is these days, but oh my, he knows what he’s doing. Within a minute I transform into a Teletubbie with ADHD that can’t stop dancing! We upgrade our dancing skills at Chef’Special. Even the most depressed festival guests start wiggling their toes, when the beats of this Dutch band start. Later that evening, we are surprised by a French rapper: MHD. Never in my life have I seen a party like this. What a night!
At Lowlands Festival you don’t have to live on fries and Dutch croquettes…although you can of course. We love the delicious fresh pitas by The Feeders and the vegetarian snacks at Plenty. From our dinner terrace we have a nice view over the water and the Wellness, where festival guests visit the sauna and go for a refreshing dive afterwards in their birthday suit. Quite the vibe!
But oh my, what a dream is our Dreamotel after these hours of bouncing from one artist to the next. We take off our muddy sneakers and fall into a deep festival coma. Time to recharge!
Highlights of the festival are the French rapper MHD, bubbling at Sean Paul, the 22 year old talented Tash Sultana, the old school oldies of Cypress Hill and the atmosphere at the little gaybar, with the prettiest drag queens ever: Adonis. I have a loooooong list of little highlights, that I will tell you in person when we meet;-).
What a festival… We say goodbye to our comfortable Dreamotel, the other beautiful tipis, caravans & the warm campfire at our Gllamcamp and take a bag, packed with memories I will never forget, home with us. Now it is my time to tell some wild stories… See you next year!
