Hotel Blooming: City Escape to Bergen
As much as I love Amsterdam, sometimes, I need a little break from city life, wander around in a forest, listen to the birds and find my peace in nature. I grew up in a tiny village in the south of the Netherlands. My favorite way to spend the day was by hanging upside down in trees and building hidden tree houses in our neighbour’s garden (please don’t tell!)…. So when I received an invitation to spend a night at Hotel Blooming Bergen, surrounded by trees and dunes, my suitcase was ready in a minute.

Hotel Blooming is located right at the edge of a forest and dunes, just 6 kilometers from the beach. The perfect city escape. Our bed has a Coco-mat mattress! Note to self: buy one when rich. Everywhere in the hotel you find funny notes like: “you made it” at the entrance.

There is a large indoor pool where we swim some laps before heading towards the restaurant. Bring on the calories… Our appetizer with cod, kohlrabi, radish, vadouvan mayonnaise and tatsoi is a stunner and absolutely delicious. The guinea fowl with truffle, veggies from the garden and tarragon is dangerously good too! The service is friendly and the wine list is excellent. Lovely restaurant!

The next morning our foodfest continues at breakfast. Oh my… choices, choices! Waffles, fresh croissants, granola, fruits… I think I need to go for a looooong forest walk after this!
Hotel Blooming is an ideal hotel for families. We stayed here during the summer holidays and most of the other guests were young families. Keep that in mind when you book. The WIFI can use a little upgrade, but hey, when you are surrounded by a luscious green forest it’s probably better to disconnect anyway and go for a hike…
