Bar Fisk: Brand New Fish Bar in de Pijp

After moving from place to place in Amsterdam for the last 12 years, I settled down in the cosy Rivierenbuurt. This neighbourhood is really close to one of my favorite areas in the city: de Pijp. So when I heard about this new fish bar called Bar Fisk, I immediately jumped on my bike, the favorite form of transport in the city, to check out this late night dining spot….

Bar Fisk Amsterdam

Bar Fisk is located at the Eerste Sweelinckstraat and feels like a fish bar in Barcelona: high seating, a laid-back vibe and the music is turned up later in the evening. Dining is possible untill 12 at night, or later.. Yes! Fisk means fish in Scandinavia and these Northern influences are also noticeable in the interior.

The options on the menu are inspired by Tel Aviv and Mediterranean regions: Israel meets Barcelona. My favorite is the Calamari dish, with beetroot salad, crème fraîche and pecans. The desserts are not on the menu yet, but available! Try the chocolate cake with salted caramel… for just 5 euros! Good price for a return ticket to heaven.

The wine list is excellent and includes top of the notch classics. Try the Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough Region in New Zealand. My absolute favorite! There are also some original options on the list from Rumania and Hungary. With over 16 wines served by the glass, there is plenty to choose from. Don’t forget to try a cocktail too though! Some of the flavours will surprise you. How about a “Yes We Can” in a… can, with rum, coconut, mango, chili and lime? Can it be summer forever please?

Speaking of summer, Bar Fisk has a big terrace too. Yay! This, in addition to the delicious dishes, good pricing, the great quality, late night dining options and killer cocktails, ranks this place on the top of my ‘summer hangout’ list. Must visit in de Pijp!
