INK Hotel & PRESSROOM, Amsterdam

In a historic building at the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal, that used to be the office of the Dutch paper ‘De Tijd’ (The Time) is now the home of the beautiful INK Hotel by the MGallery Hotel Collection. The details in the hotel pay tribute to the lively history of journalism and stories that were written here every day. That is why the hotel is named INK & the restaurant is called PRESSROOM.

I stayed one night in this perfectly located gem in the heart of the city. It is no secret that I love to be a tourist in my own hometown and my hotel heart started beating a little faster as soon as I walked through the doors of The INK Hotel. The love is in the details: red chocolate hearts on my pillow, the luxurious white marble bathroom with a touch of gold, the complimentary Dutch stroopwaffles, a must try, and the beautiful, unique wall with drawings by Jan Rothuizen, make this place feel like home. The drawings are a ‘soft atlas’, as they call it: a map of Amsterdam with notes from the artist. Jan explains to foreigners what the Hema is and tells about his childhood memories in the city. Check the second photo below for a brief explanation about the Hema!

There is an old fashioned black phone in the room & a notebook that says: ‘write your own story’, which is basically my life motto. The INK Hotel offers ‘Memorable Moments’: special activities you can book during your stay, like ‘Time Travelling by Bike’: a daytrip by bike to learn more about the history of Amsterdam. One of the best things about my stay was the peace & quiet. You totally forget that you are right in the bustling heart of the city! Check out some of the rooms HERE!

Restaurant PRESSROOM serves top of the notch dishes. The staff is super friendly and will help you with every request. We couldn’t stop raving about the tuna with watermelon, Tom Ka Kai, macadamia, ginger, ponzu & cilantro mayonnaise. The wine was excellent too… We were the last ones to leave, so I guess that says it all.. PRESSROOM is a cosy spot for a Latte & Laptop session or cocktails in the evening too. During breakfast the next morning a violin player played songs by Yann Tiersen (Amélie) in the hallway…need I say more?
