Pompstation Bar & Restaurant in Amsterdam
Bar & Restaurant Pompstation in Amsterdam is a very atmospheric restaurant, with a huge terrace. Ideal for warm summer evenings or cosy dates! In the weekend there is live music. Mostly jazz, soul, singer/songwriters or Bossa Nova. The restaurant is known for its fantastic steaks, but the female New Zealand chef Karijn Molema has created more vegetarian options and variety.

The industrial building in which Pompstation is located was built in 1912 and has since been used as a pumping station. There used to be water pumps in the space where the candlelit restaurant is now. These were moved to the basement in the 80s. In rainy weather the pumps start to drain the water from the city and you sometimes feel a little vibration in the restaurant!

When we look at the menu, everything looks good. A great combination of meat, fish and vegetarian options. The meat on the menu is of high quality, comes from the Dutch dairy cow and is kept in a ‘dry age’ cabinet where humidity, temperature and air circulation are controlled and monitored. All fish comes from Europe and is, as sustainable as possible, seasonal on the menu.
You can choose a 3-course menu for €39, a 4-course menu for €48 or a 5-course menu for €57. A wine arrangement costs €6.75 per glass per course. We decide to go for a bottle of my favorite Sauvignon Blanc from the Marlborough region in New Zealand. Very suitable when there’s a New Zealand chef!
The tuna tartar with avocado, mango, yuzu, bonito, shiso, lotus and carrot is highly recommended! Beautiful flavors and textures. My friend loves her Bresaola with rucola, pecorino, eggplant, pine nuts and orange.

At the next course I try the smoked fig with pomegranate, mint, homemade cheese, honey and sunflower seeds. This dish is missing a little extra touch of fresh or sour for me, which counteracts the taste of the soft cheese and the sweet fig. Although the pomegranate is delicious. My friend is a big fan of the sucade tortellini with aniseed, sweetbread, pistachio and sweet potato!

And then it’s time for dessert…. We taste a coconut cake with meringue and strawberries: a new dish. Delicious! Sweet, crispy, soft, fresh and fruity. The chocolate cake is also dangerously good! Death by chocolate… Heaven on a plate!
The desserts…..
Conclusion: Pompstation is a beautiful and cosy bar & restaurant, where you can sit both indoors and outdoors. The menu has a lot of delicious options. The highlights are the meat and fish dishes. Prices are good, service is always super friendly and it is a unique location. Great spot for a date!
