Renting a car in Ibiza: the best tips
Book early
One of the most important tips for renting a car in Ibiza is to book well in advance. Ibiza is an incredibly popular destination, especially during the summer months. Rental cars sell out fast. If you leave it too late, you may not get the car you want or find that nothing is available at all. Book through Discover Cars as early as possible to secure the best price and guarantee availability for your Ibiza trip.
Choose the right car
When renting a car in Ibiza, choosing the right vehicle for your plans matters more than you might think. The roads leading to the best restaurants in Ibiza are sometimes pretty bumpy. Not all roads are paved, so bear that in mind. If you plan to explore off the beaten track or reach secluded beaches, you need a car that can handle dirt roads. A 4×4 opens up beaches that are otherwise impossible to reach. My honest advice: skip the city car.
Renting a car in Ibiza: insurance and deposit
Check the insurance
One of the most important things to check when renting a car in Ibiza is the insurance coverage. Make sure you understand exactly which insurances are included in the rental price and which extras you may need to add. I always compare through Discover Cars because you can see at a glance which insurances are included per provider. No unpleasant surprises at the pick-up desk.
Deposit and credit card: what you need to know
Almost all car rental companies in Ibiza require a deposit when you pick up the car. This amount, usually between 500 and 1,500 euros, is blocked on your credit card. Most providers do not accept a debit card for the deposit, so make sure you have a credit card with sufficient limit. Some providers offer all-inclusive insurance with no deposit required at all, which is the easiest option if you do not want to think about the fine print. Through Discover Cars you can easily filter on providers with no deposit or full coverage included.
Age requirements for renting a car in Ibiza
Most car rental companies in Ibiza require a minimum age of 21. If you are between 21 and 25, most providers charge a young driver surcharge on top of the rental price. This amount varies per provider and is often charged at collection, so check the conditions carefully before you book. Some providers only rent to drivers aged 25 and over. On Discover Cars you can see the exact age requirements per provider before you confirm.
Check the terms and conditions
Alongside the insurance, it is important to read the general terms and conditions of the rental company. Make sure you understand what is expected of you and what to do if something goes wrong. Read the small print. It is not the most exciting part of planning a holiday, but it saves a lot of stress at the airport.

Renting a car at Ibiza airport
Most car rental companies have a desk at or very close to Ibiza airport. Major providers like Hertz, Avis and Europcar are located in the arrivals hall itself. Smaller providers often pick you up by shuttle and take you to their depot a few minutes away. When you book through Discover Cars, you can see exactly how collection works for each provider and whether a shuttle is involved. Staying connected from the moment you land is easy with a Saily eSIM: set it up before you leave and you are online the second you step off the plane, which is very useful for navigating with Google Maps.
Check the fuel policy
Before collecting your rental car in Ibiza, check the fuel policy. Some providers use a full-to-full policy, where you pick up the car with a full tank and return it full. Others use a full-to-empty policy, where you pick up with a full tank and can return it empty. Full-to-full is usually the cheaper option overall, but make sure you allow time to fill up before returning the car.
Parking in Ibiza
Parking in Ibiza Town is tricky, especially during high season. The blue zones are paid parking and the fines are steep. It is much easier to leave your car in one of the larger car parks on the edge of town and walk in. Outside Ibiza Town, parking near beaches and restaurants is usually free, but watch out for private car parks that present themselves as official. In smaller villages like Santa Gertrudis you can generally park along the road without any issues.
The best rental car for Ibiza
If you are looking for a reliable and stress-free experience when renting a car in Ibiza, Discover Cars is the easiest way to compare all your options in one place. You get a clear overview of available cars, prices and insurance options, with verified reviews from other travellers. On my last trip they upgraded me to a Citroën Cactus, basically a Jeep, which turned out to be very useful on the dirt roads. Yaasss! All conditions are visible and transparent before you book, so there are no surprises when you arrive.
