It is no secret that South Africa is a wine lover’s heaven. During our visit to Cape Town we have to visit one of the many beautiful vineyards in the area! An Uber takes us in 1,5 hours to Stellenbosch where we have a reservation for a luxury lunch at DeLaire Graff Wine Estate. Just 2 minutes outside of Cape Town, poverty is overwhelming and reality hits us. The slums on both sides of the road, show a world that couldn’t be more different from the one we’re heading to.

We arrive in paradise. The sun lights up the gardens full of flowers and makes this place look the perfect Bob Ross painting. What better way to end a trip in South Africa! Tonight we fly back to winter in Amsterdam, where onesies and snuggies are waiting for us and the heater will be working overtime…We’re going to enjoy this last day to the max!

During our welcome tour in a golf cart, we learn everything about the production and technological features that are developed to produce the best wine possible. Almost all the products and ingredients used in the restaurants, like flowers, fruits, herbs and vegetables, are grown in the gardens of DeLaire Graff. The unique irrigation system makes sure there is always enough water for the grapevines, gardens and flowers.

MY UNQUE STAY IN KWAZULU NATAL

DeLaire Graff Wine Estate has a couple of high end, exclusive lodges, a beautiful spa, luxury boutiques, restaurants and poster worthy views all around. Lunch is ready and we giggle like 2 overjoyed teenage girls with every new dish we’re offered. The level of creativity, flavours and service is worthy of a Michelin star, or two! Wow!

A tasting of oysters, served 3 different ways, sesame crusted tuna with aubergine tapenade, parsley purée and caviar, crème brûlée with basil ice cream, soft lemon cake and crystalized white chocolate… Need I say more? I wish I could send you the flavours through WIFI, but I hope the photos will give you an idea…

With every course we try a new glass of DeLaire Graff wine that is recommended to us by our sommelier. While we try to write down all the names of the bottles we want to bring home with us, we enjoy delicious, fresh champagne, fruity Sauvignon Blanc and a full bodied, warm Merlot. #CANWESTAYFOREVER

MY STAY AT TEMBE ELEPHANT PARK

And now you probably think: pffff that is the most expensive lunch ever!! Think again. This 3 course lunch was 500.000 Rand which is 37 dollar. An amazing price for a top of the notch lunch at one of the most beautiful spots in South Africa! So put on your best dress, celebrate life at this amazing place and tell me how it was! It will be an experience you will never forget.

MY VISIT TO ZANZIBAR AND TANZANIA

In case you want to spend the night at DeLaire Graff, you need some money… A night in one of the beautiful, exclusive lodges will cost you at least $960. There is a helicopter you can use for day trips to Cape Town. How convenient!
