Maman New York: French Bakery in Soho
When Ben & Elisa met, they both had 9-5 jobs and were dreaming about starting a bakery/ restaurant. They quit their jobs and moved to Ibiza to be inspired. A friend they met there, asked them to help him with a venue in New York and they fell in love with the city. The lease of a beautiful nearby postershop was almost up and that is how Maman New York found its home.
New York | highlights and tips
Maman is named after all mothers running the kitchen, either good or bad, we all have memories of our mother’s cooking skills ♥
It is a beautiful homely feeling rustic cafe, like the living room you wish you had.
The vintage pictures on the walls of smiling children, eating messily, make you feel like you’re visiting a family. There is a rustic wooden floor and the old brick walls are still exposed.
Flowers & branches light up the place and there are bunnies everywhere.
A designer friend made custom patterns for the cafe, that you find on all the cups, wallpaper, textiles etc. They make this place feel even more authentic and the coffee cups the prettiest in town!

Maman New York | highlights and tips
For the menu, Ben & Elisa asked childhood friend and Michelin-starred chef Armand Arnal to help them out. If you can, why not right? He runs the kitchen with great creativity and changes the menu almost daily to keep that creativity flowing and to use seasonal products as much as possible. Dishes are inspired by mother’s and grandmother’s recipes and the southern French cuisine.

Ben & Elisa recently opened Papa Poule just around the block. A cute little rotisserie with the best chicken in town..It’s on my list for my next trip to the city!
