For the birthday of a good friend, my friends and I are staying one night in a luxury lodge at Suitelodges Gooilanden in Loosdrecht. I found this accommodation via Instagram and was immediately impressed by the beautiful interior and the facilities. Our lodge has two bedrooms, one has a bath, as well as a whirlpool, sauna and fire bowl/bbq!

Our luxury lodge at Suitelodges Gooilanden.

We are very lucky with the weather and even though it’s only a half hour drive from my hometown Amsterdam, we really feel like we escaped the city. We receive a friendly welcome and a bag with necessities: detergent, olive oil, salt and pepper and a small bottle of liquid for the sauna. There are beautiful flowers in the kitchen. What a warm welcome!

The bedrooms are fully equipped and the bathroom includes my favorite Marie-Stella Maris products. They smell soooo good! The blinds make the bedrooms well-darkened. That always makes me sleep well.

After we fill up the fridge with all the goodies we brought and settle in, we soak up the sun outside with cake and cava. All three of us take a deep breath and say: “We should do this more often.” After a couple of glasses of soothing wine we take off the cover of the preheated whirlpool, sink into the warm water and talk for more than an hour, while the sun goes down.

Once shriveled like old grannies by the hot water, we step into the sauna. So nice! All rosy and relaxed we cook something delicious and after dinner we make a fire outside in the fire bowl. Love this so much! Ever since I was young, I make a fire wherever I can. It reminds me of the many campfires on the beach in Australia, when I was there for four months at the end of 2011.

After a good night’s sleep, we set the table for a full breakfast with coffee, croissants, bread, fruit and juice. If you don’t feel like bringing your own breakfast, there is also a sandwich/breakfast service in the park. We don’t want to leave anymore! I am used to the fact that when you leave a lodge, you always have to take your waste with you and throw it in a bin at the entrance/reception, but we were just about to leave with our bag when the ladies from reception came to collect the waste! What a service!

I will definitely come back to Suitelodges Gooilanden. Not only because of the comfortable lodges and the great location, but also because of the incredibly friendly service. Love the staff here!
