Last month I was invited to spend the night at the centrally located boutique hotel La Paulowna in The Hague. The hotel is located in the Zeeheldenkwartier, on a lively square, including a wine bar! Because of the nice weather, the terraces are full when I arrive. What a great vibe here. La Paulowna is a Green Key Hotel. Green Key is an international quality mark for companies in the leisure and recreation sector that take good care of sustainability, the environment and nature. Recently, beautiful new rooms have been added on the other side of the square.

We start our visit with a delicious lunch at Hortus: the restaurant of La Paulowna, where you enjoy your breakfast in the morning. On the large terrace I try the vegan Umami burger with kimchi in the sun. Everyone who knows me a little, knows that as soon as I see the word “kimchi” on a menu, I don’t have to look any further! For a moment I think I am eating meat, but the dish is completely vegan and full of flavor. Highly recommended! The bread with hummus, avocado and sun-dried tomatoes that my friend is eating looks delicious too. Restaurant Hortus is also a great spot to visit when you’re not sleeping in the hotel!

I feel very lucky to have the beautiful Emerald Suite all to myself. The suite is fully equipped and has 3 rooms: an en-suite living room, a bedroom and a bathroom. There is air conditioning, a large rain shower, delicious REN toiletries, a coffee maker, minibar and magazines. The toilet paper is from The Good Roll: a sustainable brand that uses recycled paper to save trees. My bed is soft and even the cushions are perfect. The interior is very Instagram-worthy! The love is in the details: golden clothes hangers, peacock feathers, scent sticks and beautiful lamps. A true home away from home. The high windows overlook the square.

After a good night sleep, I go downstairs for breakfast at restaurant Hortus. I order the American Pancakes and a hot croissant. Guilty pleasures! Try the homemade chai latte when you are here! The herb mix is made by family of the owners.

You can rent bikes at hotel la Paulowna for €10 per day, to go explore the city and cycle to the beach!
