Aruba is small enough to cross in under an hour, so people assume the area you pick barely matters. It does. The best areas to stay in Aruba depend on the trip you want. Palm Beach for resorts and nightlife, Eagle Beach for a quieter beach stay, Oranjestad if you want a walkable base without a car. Noord for boutique hotels and snorkelling, Savaneta for a more local, less touristy feel. I stayed on the island for 8 days, split between very different hotels. The difference in how those days felt was bigger than I expected.

Pick the wrong area and the perfect trip turns into a lot of taxi rides.

Where to stay Aruba: the 5 areas in short

For where to stay in Aruba, there are 5 areas worth considering. Palm Beach is for resorts and nightlife. World famous Eagle Beach has a wider, calmer beach with turquoise waters. Oranjestad is for walkability and shops, Noord for snorkelling and calm, Savaneta for the south coast. Palm Beach sits technically inside Noord, which confuses a lot of booking maps.

For a first trip I would pick Palm Beach or Eagle Beach. For a second trip, Noord. Solo travellers without a rental car are best off in Oranjestad or Palm Beach. Those are the only 2 areas where you can walk to dinner reservations without arranging anything. In Noord and Savaneta a rental car is not a luxury. It is the difference between eating out and eating whatever your hotel serves.

One timing note that saved me money: I booked roughly 3 months ahead. When I checked again 6 weeks before departure, the same room was 40 percent more expensive. Aruba does not reward spontaneity.

Palm Beach: best area to stay in Aruba for first timers

Palm Beach is Aruba’s high rise district. Resorts, casinos, beach bars with live music and a promenade you can actually walk in the evening. It is busy and it is touristy, and for a first visit that is exactly why it works. Families do well here too: most big resorts have a family pool, many a swim up bar. You can land, drop your bags and have dinner 200 metres away without thinking about transport.

I spent my last 2 nights at the Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort, right on the sand. We had a private sunset dinner on the beach that I still think about. Loved the ocean views and the friendly staff. The concierge makes planning dinner or beach time easy, and the swimming pool and ocean hangouts are endless.

Downside: the beach in front of the high-rises fills up early. Loungers were claimed by 8am on the days I walked past, towels and all. That is also why I booked a morning catamaran brunch cruise from this side of the island. On the water with champagne, while the sunbeds are still being negotiated. The water sports shacks along the beach rent out everything from paddleboards to jet skis.

Other resorts on Palm Beach worth comparing

The Ritz-Carlton sits at the north end of the strip. Every room has a balcony, and its spa is the biggest on the island, with an indoor water circuit. There is a casino downstairs and a separate pool for adults only.

Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort is at the south end, closest to Eagle Beach. It opened in 1959 as the Aruba Caribbean Hotel, the island’s first high-end resort. Aruba tourism more or less started here.

Aruba Marriott Resort comes with the Stellaris casino under the same roof, open 24 hours. The hotel markets its balconies as the largest on Aruba. Tradewinds rooms are for adults only and include club lounge access with evening cocktails.

Newer and all inclusive resorts on Palm Beach

Radisson Blu Aruba opened in 2021 with 133 rooms, set back from the sand. A complimentary shuttle takes you to its beach lounge. The hotel also claims the largest infinity pool on the island, next to a family pool and an adults pool.

RIU Palace is the all inclusive resort of the bunch, 24 hours a day. It reopened in 2026 after a renovation of every room, with 8 restaurants including a steakhouse and a taco bar. The Elite Club rooms are for adults only, and 31 of them come with a pool attached. Families get the RIU Land kids’ club.

Eagle Beach: best hotels for a quiet beach stay

Eagle Beach is 10 minutes south and feels like a different island. Low-rise hotels, a much wider stretch of sand, the Fofoti trees everyone photographs. It regularly lands on lists of the best beaches in the Caribbean, but the vibe stays calm and unflashy. Nightlife is limited to a handful of restaurants. This is the pick if your evenings involve a book rather than a casino. Manchebo Beach and Druif Beach continue the same stretch south towards Oranjestad.

Where to stay in Aruba on a mid-range budget

The Mill Resort and Suites sits between Eagle Beach and Palm Beach. It is a low-rise with garden suites and a pool, around 200 to 350 dollar a night. It is the sensible middle option: walking distance to both beaches, without the high-rise price tag. This stretch also has the most mid-range beach resorts and apartment rentals.

Another good fit is Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort, just across the road from Eagle Beach. All 72 rooms at Amsterdam Manor Beach Resort have a kitchenette or full kitchen. Handy if you want to cook some of your own meals.

On Manchebo Beach, Manchebo Beach Resort and Spa is a compact resort right on the sand. Spa del Sol has 5 treatment rooms on the beach. Manchebo Beach Resort also runs yoga and pilates classes by the water. Dinner options include The Chophouse, a French steakhouse.

Eagle Beach and Druif Beach: high-end and all inclusive resorts

JOIA Aruba by Iberostar is one of the newer resorts on Eagle Beach, a 5-star with rates from around 500 dollars a night. It has an adults-only infinity pool, spa services and a rooftop bar. All-inclusive is an optional add-on here. That makes the daily maths a lot easier on an island where a main course sits at 30 dollars.

For a splurge right on the sand without children around, look at Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort. Bucuti & Tara Beach Resort was the first certified carbon-neutral hotel in the Caribbean. Its Elements restaurant does organic food with plenty of vegan options.

Tamarijn Aruba All Inclusive sits south of Eagle Beach on Druif Beach. Tamarijn Aruba shares 12 restaurants and 5 pools with its sister resort Divi Aruba. The entire resort is all-inclusive, so the only maths left is how many cocktails.

Turtles and sunsets on Eagle Beach

Between April and November turtles nest here. Signs go up around the nests and you are asked to keep lights off the beach at night. Worth knowing before you plan a midnight walk. For a different setting on the same stretch of sand, I booked a sunset picnic on Eagle Beach. Cushions, snacks and iced drinks facing the water. The most beautiful picnic I have ever had.

Noord: where to stay in Aruba for boutique hotels

Noord is where I stayed longest and where I would go back. Quieter, more local and close to the snorkelling beaches Tres Trapi and Boca Catalina. The California Lighthouse and Alto Vista Chapel are within reach too. Aruba has 2 golf courses, and Tierra del Sol next to the lighthouse is the one up here.

I stayed at the Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba: adults only, with casitas set in an old coconut plantation. There are hammocks and a pool that never felt full. A home away from home and more personal than the big resorts. A quick shuttle ride takes you to the Boardwalk beach club on Palm Beach. Up at Malmok, Ocean Z Boutique Hotel has 13 rooms and suites, 2 of them with an infinity pool attached. Boca Catalina is around the corner.

You need a car here. Reckon on 40 to 60 dollars a day and book it with the room, because the popular categories go first. From this side of the island a horseback ride through Arikok to the Natural Pool is the easiest half day to organise. Take the early ride. Most island excursions to the east coast stop there too; it is the best known of Aruba’s natural pools.

Oranjestad: where to stay in Aruba without a car

Oranjestad is the capital and the only area where I would happily stay without renting anything. Dutch colonial buildings, the tram, museums, shops, restaurants within walking distance of each other. As a solo traveller a short walk matters more than a sea view.

Wonders Boutique Hotel is the one I recommend most here: adults only, 11 colourful rooms and a spring-fed lap pool. From around 100 dollar per night, it is the budget friendly pick of this list.

Hotel RH Boutique Aruba is the smaller, simpler option in residential Oranjestad, with a pool and tropical gardens. Rooms start around 125 dollar per night. Useful if you want a boutique feel without the boutique price!

Aruba Surfside Marina sits on Surfside Beach at the southern edge of Oranjestad, about 3 kilometres from the airport. The ocean-front studios and apartments have kitchenettes, from around 150 dollars per night. Handy for a first or last night.

Renaissance Island: where to stay in Aruba for the flamingos

Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba Resort is the only hotel whose guests get free access to the flamingos on Renaissance Island. That island is its own, and it is the entire reason people book it. Day passes for everyone else cost 125 dollars and are limited. Only hotel guests can reserve the private cabanas ahead. Renaissance Wind Creek Aruba has 2 wings: the adults-only Marina hotel and the family-friendly Ocean Suites. Both are just a short walk from the designer shops of the Renaissance Mall, Louis Vuitton included.

The cruise port sits right next to downtown, so cruise ship days change the mood completely. Check the port schedule if crowds bother you; the front desk usually knows which days the ships are in.

Savaneta and the south: best hotels away from the crowds

Savaneta is an old fishing village on the south coast and was once the capital. Nothing here is built for tourists, which is the appeal. Snorkelling at Mangel Halto, fresh seafood on the pier at Zeerovers. Baby Beach is 20 minutes further, shallow and sheltered enough for young kids. San Nicolas and its street art are on the way.

Rates on the south coast generally sit 30 to 40 percent below Palm Beach for the same standard. You do have to book ahead.

For a splurge on this side, Aruba Ocean Villas has 8 overwater villas on the Savaneta waterfront, adults only. Expect canopied beds, open-air showers and soaking tubs facing the sea, with mangroves around you. Book well ahead: Aruba Ocean Villas has only a handful of villas.

Where to stay in Aruba: costs and practicalities

Where to stay in Aruba also comes down to budget. In the boutique and luxury segment, the room is the budget. Reckon on 200 to 350 dollars a night for a small boutique hotel and 400 to 700 for beachfront. The simpler guesthouses and apartments run 130 to 200. Add roughly 80 to 120 dollars per person per day for meals, a rental car and 1 activity. An all-inclusive rate changes that maths. It looks higher, but with drinks and dinner included the daily total often lands lower than a beachfront room plus restaurants. At JOIA Aruba you can add it to your room.

Solo travellers should count on more per person when they visit Aruba. Rooms are usually priced per room, not per head. Airport transfers from Queen Beatrix International Airport run about 25 to 35 dollars to Palm Beach and Eagle Beach. The south costs more. Getting an eSIM before you fly saves the arrival scramble. I use Saily for that: downloaded and active before boarding. I would not skip travel insurance from SafetyWing either.

The best time to visit is mid-April to August, when the rates drop and the beaches empty out. Aruba is one of the few Caribbean islands outside the hurricane belt. The season is not a weather question but a price question. The ever present breeze takes the edge off the heat all year. What is the best area to stay in Aruba for first timers?

Palm Beach. Everything is within walking distance, and many stays here provide beach chairs. Restaurants and beach bars are open late, and you do not need a car to fill a day. The Hyatt Regency Aruba Resort works well here if you want to be right on the sand. Eagle Beach with crystal clear water is the low-key alternative 10 minutes south.

Where should solo female travellers stay in Aruba?

Oranjestad or Palm Beach. Both are walkable and well lit in the evening, with people around until late. I walked back to my hotel after dark in both areas without a second thought. Wonders Boutique Hotel puts you right in the middle of it. Noord and Savaneta are lovely but leave you dependent on a car.

Do you need a rental car in Aruba?

Only if you stay in Noord or Savaneta. In Palm Beach, Eagle Beach and Oranjestad you can manage on foot and taxis. For Arikok National Park, Dos Playa and the north coast a rental car pays for itself in a day. Many guesthouses include free parking.

How far in advance should you book hotels in Aruba?

3 to 4 months ahead for high season, 6 to 8 weeks for mid-April to August. I booked 3 months out and paid noticeably less than the rate I saw 6 weeks before departure. Boutique properties like Boardwalk Boutique Hotel Aruba go first.
