Meatlover Heaven in Amsterdam

1. The Roast Room
Open since april this year and one of my new favorite restaurants in Amsterdam! Here you find tasty burgers & steaks, but they also offer smaller dishes, like ‘Soft Shell Crab’. The smaller dishes are all €10. They have an extensive winelist. Cosy interior & a super friendly, professional staff. Insider tip: try the Flammkuchen ‘Oriental’ with Peking Duck!

2. Carbon
Carbon is a rustic and cosy steakhouse, that reminds me of an Irish Pub. They serve excellent Ribs & a devilish Lady Steak. All the meals are served on wooden plates & the table is lit by a long candle. Perfect for a low-key dinner or a date! (Don’t order the ribs on a date though, unless you’ld like to finish a full pack of toothpicks while flirting at the same time…)

3. Bar Brouw
Beer & Meat are Bar Brouw’s specialties. Every product they use is organic and of high quality. Order a Brisket or Pulled Pork and ask for some advice about the special beers they serve! After Bar Brouw’s opening in Amsterdam West, this place became instantly very popular & now there is a new venue in Amsterdam East, at the Beukenplein!
They also offer a Take Away option.

4. Geflipt
Burgers, burgers & more burgers! Try the lamb burger with merguez herbs, feta & salsa verde. Simple & tasty. Great location near Hutspot (cute concept store) and the Albert Cuypmarkt!

5. Van ’t Spit
The best chicken in Amsterdam, organic, Dutch & fresh from the spit. You can choose half a chicken or a whole one and order some side dishes like coleslaw & homemade fries. The only downside is that they don’t take reservations….so be prepared to wait a little for a spot.

6. Smokin’ Barrels
The meat is prepared on real smoking barrels. The menu is extensive and has a lot of good options for breakfast & lunch too (if you like a ‘meaty’ start of the day!). Run by the same owners of Bar Bukowski & Maxwell in the same area.
Pssst, Smokin’ Barrels is also on my list of favorite spots for a Boozy Brunch in Amsterdam. Check that list HERE.

7. Fa. Speijkervet
Here, cooking is still a ritual, like it was in our grandmother’s time. Fresh herbs are cut on the kitchen counter & pots are steaming on the stove. All the ingredients are organic and the meat is used from head to tail!

8. Loetje
The best place in Amsterdam for a steak! Some even say it is the best steak in the Netherlands. The owner showed his skills on a popular tv show here called DWDD. Hugely popular with 8 restaurants nowadays.

9. Graceland Bar-B-Q
New hotspot at The Marktkantine in Amsterdam West. All the meals are prepared on a ‘Texas Smoker’ and cooked ‘low & slow’, sometimes up to 16 hours. This gives the meat a very special flavour! On the menu you find true barbecue classics and it feels like you’re eating at a roadhouse in Texas! All products come from the food centre nextdoor and the sauces are homemade, yummmm! Great spot for cocktails too!

10. Julius Bar & Grill
Julius is a famous Dutch chef from the tv show ‘Topchef’ and this is his third venue. There is an ‘open fire grill’ in the middle of the restaurant, where all the food is prepared. You can keep it simple, by ordering some small dishes or you can go all out and order an excellent exclusive wine. If you like the homemade sauces by Julius, you can buy one for a happy little bbq in your own backyard.
